Clear Light Ensemble
Samuel Clairborne (viola, guitar, voice, electronics) is a poet, novelist, photographer, video artist, essayist, a 2008 NYFA Fellow in Music Composition, and a regular political commentator for Northeast Public Radio.
He co-founded the “avant-bizarro” acoustic duo “Loons in the Monastery”, who have released several CDs under the Sonotrope label. His newest CD, The Annunciation, is a solo project of piano improvisations inspired by a post-feminist reinterpretation of the Biblical annunciation story. His solo piece “Viola Breath” will be released as part of the 5 CD NYFA composers25 year retrospective on Innova records.
John Dubberstein has played sitar for 35 years. A student of Harihar Rao, Punita Gupta, and Manilal Nag, he has in recent years taken a tack away from a strictly classical presentation of Indian music. The current music will be featured in support of holographic laser dome projection works.
John also (when not windsurfing the Hudson) performs on vocals and guitar with the Bad Boys Blues Band.
Tem Noon, Tabla
David “Dabman” Bennett, Bass
Plus “special guest” David Rothenberg, flute
